Movie is okay, but Faye Dunaway is pretty darned great.

Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*

Rated: 14A

Starring: the OG Serena Joy

Plot: Based on the true story of Christina Crawford – adopted daughter to movie legend Joan Crawford (Faye Dunaway) and her traumatic upbringing.

Tanya’s Verdict: As a kid, this movie played on TV at least once per year – and certain scenes have since been burned in my memory. So it was only natural that I decided to rewatch now through grown-up eyes.

While the movie itself is quite dated – with lengthy (sometimes to the point of awkward) scenes and over-the-top acting – Faye Dunaway is solid in this role as the hopelessly insecure and deranged Crawford.

In my memory, this movie was mostly about child abuse. But re-watching it now, all these years later, I can see it for what it really is: the story of a woman so damaged, she is incapable of true love – romantically and as a mother.

*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great
