Hum-drum and run-of-the-mill.

Tanya’s Score: Okay*

Rated: PG-13

Starring: Tyrion Lannister and Christian Grey

Plot: In 1993, a British reporter (Jamie Dornan) flies to California to interview (what turns out to be) the final interview of French actor Hervé Villechaize (Peter Dinklage) before his untimely death.

Tanya’s Verdict: Peter Dinklage is a good actor. He did his best in this movie and it shows – but with a hum-drum script as well as run-of-the-mill storyline, it wasn’t enough to elevate this film in my opinion.

As for Jamie Dornan – he looks like an insect and has about the same amount of screen presence as a gnat.

This film never goes beyond the surface. Here and there, it touches briefly on tidbits within the life of Villechaize but never goes beyond the expected. I was hoping for more detail and more insight into his childhood, his youth, his career, his life. Unfortunately, this movie just meanders from beginning to untimely end with little in the way of the unexpected or exciting.

Before watching this, all I knew of Hervé Villechaize was that he was Tattoo on Fantasy Island. After having watched My Dinner with Hervé, my knowledge of him remains pretty much the same.
