Under a haze of nostalgia – it’s still okay.

Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Ms. Roberts; Mr. Gerbil; Mr. Costanza

Plot: A successful businessman (Richard Gere) meets a hooker with a heart of gold (Julia Roberts) and they forge an actual love connection.

Tanya’s Verdict: Way back when, I actually liked this one. Sure it’s a bit hokey and romanticized and predictable – but still – not awful for a rom-com.

I probably shouldn’t have re-watched it. “Big Mistake. Huge.” It’s dated and kind of silly and as my one daughter announced: “Just too cheesy.”

But under a hazy cloud of nostalgia, it’s still okay.

  1. Yes,it is hokey ! On a darker note,it tends to romanticize prostitution. The outcome for most in this profession is far from what is portrayed in this movie !
