Plot: A shallow man (Jack Black) has his perceptions changed so that he only sees an individual’s inner beauty.
Tanya’s Verdict: This movie is what the kids these days would call “problematic”. I’m certain Shallow Hal means well – and back in 2001 it was probably not under as much scrutiny as it is today. But according to this film, old is ugly and beautiful is slender. There are problems with that.
However, leaving all of that unpacked – in terms of a silly romantic comedy? Shallow Hal is okay. My girls enjoyed it.
