Okay – but I wanted more.

Tanya’s Score: Okay*

Rated: R

Starring: Offred; Jimmy Baxter; a wallflower

Plot: Famed horror writer Shirley Jackson (Elizabeth Moss) and her husband (Michael Stuhlbarg) take in a young couple (Odessa Young; Logan Lerman) and their personal and professional lives begin to spiral.

Tanya’s Verdict: The character study of Shirley Jackson is interesting – but I found it wanting. At least – I wanted more; more about Shirley and who she is and what she’s been through. Instead, what is provided is a somewhat artsy portrayal of a woman in crisis and the people within her immediate whirlpool.

At times, this often confusing and deliberately ambiguous film is pretty to watch with interesting interactions. But in the end, I still know barely anything about Shirley Jackson and the life she once led.

*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great
