An inspirational and interesting true story.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: PG

Starring: a couple of daredevil climbers

Plot: An inspiring documentary about two young men attempting to scale the 3000 foot Dawn Wall of El Capitan at Yosemite.

Tanya’s Verdict: This was an interesting documentary (and I’m not even all that interested in rock climbing). For starters, main climber Tommy Caldwell has a compelling back story that I don’t want to give away completely in case you are interested in watching this one yourself. Suffice it to say it involves a traumatic experience in another country and a separate incident closer to home that left him slightly maimed.

The other striking element of this doc is the footage of the men climbing and actually living their lives on this rock face. This entails sleeping in hanging tents, cooking in unconventional ways and actually pooping into canvas bags.

If you liked the movie Free Solo (2018), then you’ll probably enjoy this one as well. And vice versa.

My son and I both enjoyed this one.
