More a drama than a horror – I have just recently discovered.

Tanya’s Score: Good-and-a-half*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Elizabeth Hale; Jason Patric’s dad; one angry man

Plot: When doctors cannot help a seriously ill 12-year-old girl (Linda Blair), her mother (Ellen Burstyn) turns to the religious community.

Tanya’s Verdict: In my mind, this was one of the all-time scariest movies I had ever seen – and while there are definitely some images I don’t want flashing through my mind as I lay in bed at night waiting for sleep to come – I’ve come to realize that The Exorcist is more a drama than a horror movie.

Slow to unfold (which is one of the most dated aspects of the movie), this only serves to make the action up to and at the movie’s end all the more compelling and satisfying.

*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great
