In my opinion, it pales in comparison to the original film.

Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*

Rated: PG

Starring: Walter White; funny man Kev; Nikki K.

Plot: A billionaire quadriplegic (Bryan Cranston) hires an ex-con (Kevin Hart) as his personal care assistant.

Tanya’s Verdict: In my opinion, this movie is just a touch shy of good for several reasons with the main one being that it pales in comparison to the French original it is based on – Les Intouchables (2011). But here is further justification for my subpar review:

a) It’s about 20 minutes too long
b) Despite being based on a true story, it’s a bit simplistic and contrived
c) It seemed a waste of talent for Nicole Kidman to play the role she did

Similar to the plot line of Green Book (2018) with a bit of a character switcheroo, The Upside is still a (mostly) enjoyable and entertaining movie. And especially if you have not already seen the original, then my guess is you’ll like it even more than I did.
