Nothing held this one together save for a few 80s pop numbers.

Tanya’s Verdict: Okay*

Rated: PG-13

Starring: a couple of vaguely familiar actors; a vaguely familiar youtuber

Plot: A remake of the 1983 Valley Girl – except this one a musical set to 80s pop hits – valley girl Julie (Jessica Rothe) meets punk rocker Randy (Josh Whitehouse) and they try to make it work despite their different friend groups and respective upbringings.

Tanya’s Verdict: This movie didn’t do it for me. A light and airy Romeo and Juliet story set to poppy 80s tunes sounds cute and fun in theory – but besides having some enjoyable music and sweet little dance numbers – there wasn’t much else holding this movie together.

It could have worked in the same way that High School Musical worked – but instead it just fell flat. The acting was bad, the characters worse – the songs were really the only thing keeping me watching.

I’m going to re-watch the original movie from 1983 – because in my teenage memory – it was a better movie. But we’ll see about that.
