Strange and dark . . . but in a good way.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Dr. Klemperer and Dr. Watson

Plot: A mother (Tilda Swinton) has difficulty loving her troubled son (Ezra Miller) and pays a steep price for his sins.

Tanya’s Verdict: I enjoyed this book – as much as you can enjoy a tale of disturbing family dysfunction leading to murder and mayhem. I remember the book being difficult to get a grasp on and definitely not being an easy read – so a bit of a challenge – but worthwhile in the end.

Same goes for the movie. It’s not an easy one to watch in terms of the way it unfolds and chooses to release glimpses of the storyline through snippets from the past and present. It is also somewhat frustrating to watch in terms of the way the characters behave.

So it’s dark and disturbing – but if that’s your cup of tea – then you may enjoy it. Like I did. My girls liked it too.
