An action-packed heist movie with well-rounded characters. I heartily enjoyed it.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: 14A

Starring: a few bad husbands, a few long-suffering wives, a couple of crooked politicians, Carrie Coon

Plot: After a heist gone wrong leaves three widows behind, they conspire to pull it off themselves in order to pay off their husbands’ debts and move forward with their own lives.

Tanya’s Verdict: If you are expecting an action-packed movie with little substance and one-dimensional characters – then go see Ocean’s Eight and save Widows for another day. However, if you are after a movie that takes time and effort to develop character and story line; that doesn’t hesitate to meander here and there for the sake of both these elements; that is also filled with action, car chases, gunfire and the odd explosion; that twists and turns – often implausibly but always in the name of entertainment – then definitely check out Widows.

When the movie ended and the lights came on in the theatre – I heard lots of grumbling around me: “Well that was a waste of time“; “That was long and boring“; “I did not like that at all“.

But not me – I heartily enjoyed myself.
