A bit dated – but not without its charms.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: PG

Starring: Val Kilmer – back when he was easy on the eyes

Plot: When an infant is targeted for death by an evil queen, a dwarf by the name of Willow (Warwick Davis) steps in to protect the baby and do what it takes to get her to safety.

Tanya’s Verdict: All these years and I never saw this movie until now. I just assumed it wasn’t my cup of tea what with the medieval and fantastical setting and whatnot. But to my surprise – it was more Princess Bride than Lord of the Rings – and so it was better than I had expected.

Sure it’s a bit dated at times – in terms of plot, set-up and especially with some of the special effects – but Willow is not without its charm. Warwick Davis does well as Willow – carrying the film and adding to its all-around appeal in my mind anyway.

In my opinion, this is the ideal action/adventure movie for parents to watch alongside their children (think Raiders of the Lost Ark). Yet, I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t fully disclose that all three of my children lost interest in the film within the first hour – declaring it bo-ring.
