Inspirational combined with interesting. Always a good combo.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: PG

Starring: a real life, inspirational plane crash survivor

Plot: The true story of Juliane Koepcke who at 17 was the sole survivor of a 1971 plane crash in the South American jungle.

Tanya’s Verdict: This was a great documentary to watch with my two teenagers. The story is an amazing one – Juliane Koepcke (in her late 40s at the time of filming) travels back to the jungle where she was the sole survivor of a plane crash (that killed 92 people) and recreates her journey to rescue.

The movie is short (65 minutes) yet fascinating if only because of the ordeal this teenager managed to survive. That said, I felt like lots of key details were either skipped altogether or else only touched upon. I was left wanting so much more information.

Nevertheless, a good film to remind teenagers what they are capable of as well as show them a real life example of human perseverance. One note: they must be willing to read sub-titles.
