A perfect mix of discombobulating creepiness until the very end.

Tanya’s Score: Great*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Mary Jackson; Sikowitz; Precious

Plot: Past and present seem to merge in a mystifying way for successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monáe) and she must escape before it’s too late.

Tanya’s Verdict: Certain people will not agree – but this film blew me away. It’s not often that I can watch a movie that is creepy and discombobulating and which will keep me guessing until the very end. Not to mention, not one single moment where I felt it dragged or lost momentum – the music perfectly intensifying the scenes. It may have helped that I knew little about this movie going in.

There are several stories within this one film – and it very cleverly depicts a story that happens to be a grim reality for many people in this day and age.

We watched (and enjoyed) this movie as a family – but please note there are several scenes of intense brutality and violence. If you do decide to check it out, continue watching as the end credits scroll.

*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great
