A heartbreaking and honest portrayal.

Tanya’s Score: Good-and-a-half*

Rated: PG

Starring: that annoying weirdo from On Being a God

Plot: Two teenaged girls (Sidney Flanigan; Talia Ryder) sneak away from their homes in Pennsylvania and head to New York City so that one of them can get an abortion.

Tanya’s Verdict: This is a pretty good little movie. There’s plenty of quiet with a lot going on. In fact, the more I thought about this movie after it was over, the more I liked it. It’s a heavy one though. For one thing: there’s not a single redeemable male character – starting with the main character’s father, her boss, and the several males she encounters throughout the film’s duration.

I felt for both stars – and the struggles they were attempting to hurdle and for the relationship they had with one another. It was heartbreakingly honest and it made me reflect back on my own life and realize how lucky I have been with my own family, work and social relationships.

My girls enjoyed it – but they didn’t truly get it. One day, when they are grown and they decide to rewatch this gem of a film – they will.
