Nothing short of brilliant.

Tanya’s Score: Great*

Rated: PG-13

Starring: my new favourite actor; Sophia Burset; Zoya the Destroyer

Plot: Unable to move on from a tragic incident in her past, a young woman (Carey Mulligan) goes on a quest of revenge.

Tanya’s Verdict: With this particular film, Carey Mulligan has joined my top 3 actresses (along with Laura Dern and Frances McDormand). She is nothing short of wonderful in this role which is tailor made for her and the thespian chameleon she so clearly is.

Promising Young Woman shines a light on the many facets of sexual assault – the subjectivity of those involved, the arising complicity and the resulting damage – to direct victims as well as the everlasting ripples that slowly but surely envelop all in its devastating wake.

This movie is remarkable – unpredictable until the closing scene; compelling and fascinating to watch; and original in both storyline and visuals. Kudos to Emerald Fennell (or as I like to think of her “Nurse Mount”) for this amazing movie. My daughter and I both loved it.
