Slow-burning, character-based – just the way I like it.

Tanya’s Score: Good-and-a-half*

Rated: 14A

Starring: according to my 14-year-old daughter – “the old guy from Joker“, “some blonde chick” and a “the lady from The Silence of the Lambs“.

Plot: A veteran turned cab driver (Robert De Niro) begins to unravel mentally as his frustration toward society builds.

Tanya’s Verdict: This one’s a slow burn relying on character development with a gigantic pay off in the end. My 14-year-old daughter asked to watch it – and all these years later – I am still impressed by it. So was she. Though she said “it wasn’t as good as she had hoped”.

It was interesting to re-watch this one after recently watching Joker .Though truth be told, I liked Joker just a touch better.

*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great
